Description
Have you ever seen those movies that begin with dawn in a small desert village? Slowly, as we see the sun rise up over the horizon, the village stumbles to life and the work of a new day begins. Against this backdrop, there is a lone woman, a large water bucket, either perched on her head or carried in her arms. She walks slowly to the well, lowering the bucket gently into the cool, refreshing water before carefully, langorously pulling the bucket back up to the surface. Though it isn’t set in a desert, those old movies still provided the inspiration for this drawing. Instead of a desert, this woman lives wild on the moors; fierce and independent and impervious to cries and catcalls of “witch” and “crone.” She is the wild, she is the woman, she is the well…and she is the magic that binds us all. Ink drawing created in 2021.
